The virus that causes this condition is the Human Papilloma Virus. There are a few different subtypes responsible for the viral infection in the foot which has thought to be a reason behind the recalcitrant nature of the condition. Common areas to contract the virus are bathtubs, floors of locker rooms and any other moist, dirty surface.
